Colin's talent is soooo wasted in this movie - I really feel bad for him. He does much better in British/International movies. It was good to see Jason Robards but his role is similar to others he has played previously. You really have to be fan of one of the actors to actually watch it. Sorry, not my cupa of tea.Disappointment... - glenstonecottage
Great cast... I'm a big Jason Robards fan, and my wife loves Colin firth, but this film doesn't really make it, alas.
I haven't read the book, but the film seemed to lack a lot of details which might have made the drama more believable.
For example, the suicide of the husband of the Michelle Pfeiffer character seemed really unmotivated.
And the way the adults would sit and play Monopoly (!!!) give me a break, adults don't play Monopoly. Not worth the time to watch - megatalker
After reading the book, I was quite excited to watch the movie come out a couple years later. What a disappointment. Athough mostly following the plot, this movie was hard to watch until the end, I almost shut it off and returned it before watching the ending. Definately not impressed by this adaptation of the book.
