Across the Bridge
From a novel by Graham Greene, Rod Steiger plays an unscrupulous financier who has absconded to Mexico with company funds. A genius at improvisation, he evades the authorities and concocts a scheme whereby he will murder a man, dispose of the body and assume the dead man's identity. He soon learns the dead man whose identity he has assumed was an even more notorious fugitive from justice. In one of Steiger's most poignant performances, it is the bond to his victim's dog that leads to his downfall.

Hidden Gem - newdaysof
Across The Bridge is a hidden gem starring Rod Steiger as a business tycoon who gets caughts stealing money and has to hide in Mexico.
The character he plays is cold, hard and ruthless and he won't stop at anything to get away to freedom. Along the way, he meets up with an adorable dog called Dorothy who he cruelly rejects at first, then eventually becomes fond of.
Rod Steiger said that this was one of his favourite films of all time and it is easy to see why. I think the story is really about human nature, how even the most thoughtless and cruel person has a kernel of goodness which can be brought to the surface by the plight of a helpless animal. There is an unforgettable scene near the end of the film that will stay with you forever.
