After Dark, My Sweet
"Two thumbs way up. Shockingly fresh...wildly romantic. One of the year's best." -Siskel & Ebert
Jason Patric (The Lost Boys) stars in this mesmerizing thriller of erotic tensions that explode into violence when a kidnapping goes wrong.
Collie is an ex-boxer who seems the perfect pawn to pull off a kidnapping planned by a sexy widow and a cop-turned-con man. What they don't know is that Collie is an escapee from a mental institution. When he realizes the woman he loves had been manipulating him Collie turns the tables - playing a game of deceit and raw desire that can only end in death.

Huh?? What does that even mean? This is one of those too-cute-by-half 90s efforts better left to languish in obscurity, along with Rotten Tomatoes' rating. Meaningless flashbacks of Patric's ring days are interwoven with shots of Rachel Ward's butt amidst a struggling plot-line to very little dramatic effect. Pace Siskel & Ebert, two thumbs down.A nice surprise - psychic
I had never heard of this movie, but since Lost Boys was a little favourite of mine, I thought I'd check it out.
I was pleasantly surprised. Overall there were very good performances in a kinky twisted plot.
Jason Patric was a sympathetic character and Bruce Dern was, once again, Bruce Dern who does banally bad as good as anyone. Not Good Enough... - Chops
... to keep me from trotting off to refill my wine glass a few times while the DVD continued to play. This may have been a stellar film when it was released in 1990 but it hasn't aged very well. Performances were good but I found the story lacking in originality and have seen the same kind of thing done better by others. Overall, I wasn't impressed.
