Alex & Emma
"Kate Hudson is Sensational! A Charming, Clever and Hilarious Romantic Comedy." - Earl Dittman, Wireless Magazine
Publish or perish! Alex has just 30 days to finish his romance novel and collect his writing fee - money he owes to loan sharks threatening his life. So stressed-out Alex hires Emma to be his stenographer and discovers she's opinionated, direct, a cause of exasperation... and a source of inspiration.
From director Rob Reiner (When Harry Met Sally...) comes a movie about when Alex met Emma, a fun affair set in both the modern world Emma (Kate Hudson) and Alex (Luke Wilson) share and the 1920s Gatsby-like world of the book they're creating. With love & laughs, wit & imagination, Alex & Emma writes the book on romance. It's "the best romantic comedy of the year" (Jim Ferguson, FOX-TV).

Wilson does his best work ever, and Hudson is her usual charming self. Imitating that life, Alex & Emma is more artifice than art. But chemistry is the key to a romantic comedy, and this one has enough to unlock guarded hearts. While it's no When Harry Met Sally, it is a nice return to the genre by Mr. Reiner.Just smile! - LadyLost
Take it for what it is... period. If you want a movie that's kinda cheese, yet sweet, this is a good start. Audrey Hepburn had a movie identical to this and it flopped too, but you know what... i still watch it cause it makes me laugh. This movie does the same thing, you like the characters and the ideas that float them into a cute little romance. Just enjoy the movie for what it is, and don't try to make it into anything it could never be.Storybook Life - SPSullivan
"Alex And Emma" is not a bad movie, but it is a very lazy one. Having found an interesting hook -- a real-life relationship parallels a fictional one -- writer Leven and director Reiner seem to have sat back and called it a day. The real-life affair -- the one between the title characters -- rings false: not only is it serviced by every cliche in the annals of romantic moviemaking (the montage of the couple walking through the park eating ice cream, the last-minute misunderstanding which drives them apart, and so on) but the whole process of writing Alex's book is hard to accept. For instance, what author can stand in front of a stenographer and rattle off perfect sentences, without ever stumbling or going back to change a word? But even this might be forgivable had that perfection extended to Alex's plot and characters. Alas, here is the movie's biggest failing: Alex's novel is awful. Rambling and aimless, it comes across as something a mediocre late-night creative writing student would hammer out, not a work destined for a major publishing house. The film's entire premise, therefore, is tough to buy into: suspension of disbelief is not the strong point of "Alex And Emma". There is, at least, a saving grace in the charming performances from Wilson and especially Hudson. If only Reiner and Leven had tried half as hard.
