Alfie
What's it all about...
Alfie is not really a bad sort. It's just that he has overwhelming desire for the opposite sex. You might sat that "birds" are irresistible to him, sort of second nature. With Michael Caine in the title role, Alfie is a ribald and wild comedy, filled with sex and sin. For those who want to be entertained, Alfie is charming, delightful and quick-moving. For those who want more, there is beneath the surface a lingering tragedy, simply and poignantly told, about the taker and the taken.

Good Movie - Ptimmyj
This movie is definitely a dramatic comedy, emphasis on the drama. With many dark themes and dense, dark and funny dialogue, this movie definitely keeps you entertained and makes you think about relationships and their restrictions and their freedoms.
Much better than the remake, this classic is a must-see if you like cleverly written dialogue delivered with British wit.
Michael Caine perfectly suits the lead role.
My favourite scene involves an uncaring and dismissive Alfie who is informed that something minor came up in an x-ray of his lungs, causing him to have a sudden panic ending in him collapsing on the ground. Classic! What Is It all About - Ariel
People who talk about how funny Alfie is probably haven't seen it since it's first release. Instead, it is a bleak, unflinching portrait of a self-absorbed bloke who is juggling many women while refusing to admit that for all his schemes and theories about relationships that he is utterly alone. There is little tenderness or compassion in this portrayal and Michael Caine is effortless at inhabiting this unlikeable character. The constant grin and cleverness delivered directly to the camera is a strict contrast to the events that unfold in the film.Comedy? - Ablino
I was quite surprised by the harshness of this film considering when it was made. I haven't seen the Jude Law remake, but I doubt that it stacks up to this version in terms of a realistic portrayl of an aging and increasingly lonely Casanova who is utterly incapable of recognizing how is own behaviour is affecting him. I liked the film a lot. Alfie was charming, in a way - Michael Caine certainly was easy to watch - but ultimately I felt so sorry for him. In the end his womanizing did the most damage to himself, yet the film was never heavy-handed about this message.
