Allosaurus
A Walking With Dinosaurs Special
Life was hard in the Jurassic age, even for a large dinosaur at the top of the food chain. A few years ago, the most complete allosaurus skeleton ever found was discovered in Wyoming. The bones tell a surprisingly detailed biography of one individual dinosaur, Big Al, as he came to be known by the scientists who pieced together his story. The creators of Walking With Dinosaurs have vividly recreated this 15-year story from birth to death using the same computer graphic and animatronic techniques that stunned viewers throughout the world when they saw the original series.
A companion program, Big Al Uncovered, shows how scientists were able to trace the evidence of Big Al's life story. Using the same state-of-the-art graphic effects, Big Al haunts the modern-day museums and dig sites as passionate scientists explain their findings and theories.

Who Has Heard of an Allosaurus? - TheShamus
The BBC is responsible for the "Walking With ..." dinosaur series. This is another very impressive show from this series. This time around, the show focuses on the "less famous" Allosaurus (discovered in 1991).
The first portion of the show follows an "Allosaurus" 165-years ago throughout its shorted life. This show features the most impressive computer generated images mixed with real backdrops and animatronics.
As I was watching the show, I wondered how they knew so much about this beast. The second portion of the disc contains a "making of ..." feature (in all, the entire disc runs about 60 minutes). The viewer learns that more is known about the "Allosaurus" than any other dinosaur.
I was very impressed by the realism and the interesting science behind the show (there are lots of assumptions which need to be made). There is a violent reality about life on earth 165-years ago -- so before you sit your child down to watch this video -- keep in mind, this is not a "cuddly" dinosaur movie. It is survival of the fittest, and there is going to be "blood" etc.
The whole concept of dinosaurs is fascinating to me. Great (but short) execution.
/\/\/\/\ the Shamus /\/\/\/\Big Al - kav2001c
Great educational film about an Allosaurus they nicknamed "Big Al" who had been excavated in 1991
They then attempt to base a short film on Al's life (and death)
It also includes a second film on the dvd (which shows how they made the feature film); but be warned, the 60 minute runtime is for the *entire* dvd, which means they are assuming you will watch the behind the scenes as well
Still well done BBC film and kids shold love itLooks great, but more of the same - Rick1
If you liked the Walking with Dinosaurs series, this is more of the same. It is done by the same group of people, and alot of the older series ideas pop up here too. But as usual, the computer generated graphics looks great. The mix of computer animation and real backdrops really add to the overall look. Allosaurus is more of a one dinosaur story, but the encounters are fun and keep the viewers attention. The series continues its tradition of excellence, and Allosaurus is no different.
