Amadeus
The Man..The Music..The Madness..The Murder..The Motion Picture.
Antonio Salieri - now confined to an insane asylum.
Amadeus triumphs as gripping human drama, sumptuous period epic, glorious celebration of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart--& as the winner of eight 1984 Academy Awards, including Best Picture (produced by Saul Zaentz), Actor (F. Murray Abraham), Director (Milos Forman) & Adapted Screenplay (peter Shaffer).
It's 1781 & Antonio Saliere (Abraham) is the competent court composer to Emperor Joseph II. When Mozart (Oscar nominee Tom Hulce) arrives at court, Salieri is horrified to discover that the godlike musical gifts he desires for himself have been bestowed on a bawdy, impish jokester. Mad with envy, he plots to destroy Mozart by any means. Perhaps even murder.

An engrossing look at Mozart and the people who loved and hated him. The music is out of this world, the acting on all counts thoroughly well done, the portrayal of human characteristics like joy, envy, greed, and madness are all excellent. Although fictional, the story, dialogue, and direction are all done, not just professionally, but over-and-above what is necessary and into art.Scribbling and bibbling, bibbling and scribbling - blissful_muse07
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's story is told through the words of the one man who envied the brilliant composer, Salieri, and was rumoured to have murdered him.
It was disappointing to know what kind of music could have continued to be composed by Mozart if he didn’t die at a young age. Regardless of the true facts behind the death of Mozart, this was a very intimate and detailed look into his heart and mind as well as those who loved and loathed him. With such passionate performances, beautiful scenery and accompanying music, this is a film that is truly worth seeing.worth mulitple viewings! - MusicMom
I have seen this movie at least six times and enjoyed it thoroughly each time. It deserved every Oscar it won. It's greatest strengths are the writing, the music and the acting of the two leads, Salieri and Mozart. If you haven't seen it yet, give yourself at treat. There is never a dull moment in this movie.
