An Ideal Husband
He just doesn't know it yet.
Sexy leading man Rupert Everett (Shakespeare In Love, My Best Friend's Wedding) heads an acclaimed all-star cast in this wonderfully witty story of decadence, romance and scandal! Sir Robert (Jeremy Northam - Happy, Texas, Mimic), is a highly respected politician whose spotless reputation is the pride of his beautiful wife (Cate Blanchett - Elizabeth) and adoring sister (Minnie Driver - Good Will Hunting, Grosse Pointe Blank). But when an old acquaintance (Julianne Moore - Boogie Nights, The Lost World: Jurassic Park) threatens to reveal a dark secret from Robert's past, only his womanizing, party-loving best friend Goring (Everett) is scheming and dishonest enough to come to his aid! Overwhelmingly acclaimed by critics - you'll love this fresh, funny motion picture and its stellar ensemble as they elevate the art of blackmail to an elegant game of wit and passion!

I enjoyed the redemptive undertone. It made me ponder how we can sometimes put people on pedalstools when they personify our ideals...and how deeply we are hurt when their humanness interferes with those very ideals.
Superbly written by: Oscar Wilde adaptation weaves its layers of romance and deceit masterfully, brimming with dry wit and astute observations about love. Marvelous cast with Rupert Everett scoring highest, and even the peerless Cate Blanchett would step aside to acknowledge the delightful doe-eyed performance of Minnie Driver.
*Be aware* the whole film is one long talkfest, but if you savor the digestion of skilled, multi-meaning conversation, then 'An Ideal Husband' is a sumptuous feast for the ears.Witty, whimsical, winning! - CheeryCherry
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! I recommend this to anyone who is already a fan of period films or even if you feel like watching an all-star cast in a very witty comedy. The script was very well written, the characters were charming and endearing. I felt like these were friends of mine by the end of the film. It was Shakespearean in nature, but had a Jane Austin feel as well. Add this to you zip list today!Charming and witty - thenewguy
An Ideal Husband is a fun and witty period movie about a late 19th century member of parliament who is blackmailed about events from his past. He (and his wife) then turn to their idle and wifeless friend in the hopes that he can put things right. Our... hero is beset upon by single women hoping for marriage, a friend looking for a safe career and a woman hoping he can save her marriage. It's a witty, fun and classy adventure with a great sense of humour. The word play is excellent and fine performances are put in by Everett, Driver and Moore.
