Angela's Ashes
"'Angela's Ashes' is the perfect realization of my book on film." -Frank McCourt
Angela's Ashes, the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir, comes to life in this stirring film from acclaimed director Alan Parker (Evita) starring Academy Award-nominee Emily Watson (Breaking The Waves) and Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty).
Life in impoverished Depression-era Ireland holds little promise for young Frank McCourt, the oldest son in a tightly knit family. Living by his wits, cheered by his irrepressible spirit, and sustained by his mother's fierce love, Frank embarks on an inspiring journey to overcome the poverty of his childhood and reach the land of his dreams: America.

It's very well done; splendidly acted; and very true to the book. But my God, it's a dreary, heart-wrenching experience watching the damned thing. So in short, one has to be in the mood for such a journey. Worth a watch, but you gotta be in the right frame of min.dwhy did i zip this? - huma
i loved this book. LOVED it. but after watching the movie, i have absolutely no idea why. although the acting was quite good, by the children in particular, the story seemed so long and drawn out...and it felt like the best part was lopped off. if you're into melodrama, this one's for you. if not, carry on.HOPEFUL - len1970
Even though poverty will lead individuals to desperate acts, those who are strong enough will be able to survive and leave behind such terrible conditions. In Angela's Ashes, a little boy grows to be an ambitious young man who unlike his father or mother, did not let the circumstances nor his condition get the best of him. I have not read the book, but I feel the movie was great.
