This is a fun movie with a young Natalie Portman in the role of a smart teenager living with her mom (a little nutty mom). I really enjoyed this movie, although it is a typical chick flick. Its entertaining to watch with your girlfriends and worth the space on your zip list as you catch up with blasts form the pastClever, Funny and Touching. - 1writer
A very interesting story about an unconventional mother (played by Susan Sarandon) and her intellectual and semi-rebellious teenage daughter (Natalie Portman in one of her earlier roles). The movie is dramatic, funny, clever, poignant and touching. The two have trouble connecting throughout the movie, but as they both grow and learn from each other they grain a mutual respect and their familial connection deepens. Natalie Portman (Garden State, Star Wars I - III) plays an angst filled teenager aching to escape her mother, Susan Surandon (Bull Durham, The Client). The twist is that she has good reason to want to escape. Her mother does not have the ability to make an appropriate decision. Child protective services should have taken her away. This is definitely a chick flick.
