Armed & Dangerous
A comedy about security guards with the safety off.
John Candy and Eugene Levy charge into the world of private security in the outrageous action-comedy Armed and Dangerous. Unfortunately, they're usually charging in the wrong direction. When Candy, a bungling cop, and Levy, an inept lawyer, lose their jobs, they wind up together at the Guard Dog Security Company. After thorough training in the use of firearms (for two hours), they're raring to go. But even as security guards they can't cut it, and rip offs take place right under their noses. Eventually they figure out that the robberies aren't coincidental, and that their company is in cahoots with the security union's mobster president (Robert Laggia, The Jagged Edge). Eager to snag the crooks, Candy and Levy set out as spies, and in a wild car chase turn a million dollar heist into an armed carnival! When the dust finally settles, Candy and Levy save the day as the hilarious rent-a-cop duo who are never more funny than when they're Armed and Dangerous.

Armed and Dangerous-ly lazarific - Smittyosmitt
Not as funny as I had remembered from waaaay back when I was just a wee laddy, but decent none the less. This is a good mindless afternoon lazin on the couch nursin a hangover kinda movie. Mindless and fun, and short so I doesn't seem like it drags on. The rating for this one just squeeks past the "wait for someone else to rent" and gets into the "worth rentin" category.I Want Candy! (but not this movie) - TheShamus
There is no doubt that John Candy and Eugene Levy are talented comedic actors. Unfortunately, "Armed and Dangerous", a relatively low budget under cover cops comedy is not the vehicle to show off their abilities. Candy's best worked included "Planes Trains and Automobiles" and "Uncle Buck". Levy is his best in movies, "Best in Show" or "American Pie".
This is a low budget mess of a movie -- which is more silly or slapstick than anything else. If there is one redeeming feature -- the movie is not meant to be taken too seriously, and it is difficult not to like John Candy.
Check out the SCTV compilations from SHOUT! Factory for better examples of their versatility. There is a great story of Candy in the EXTRAS which talks about John Candy driving around Toronto, stopping for free meals and free "stuff" that people used to give him because he was a celebrity -- it was almost impossible to get from one place to another without a number of stops --- all the while, chain smoking and eating.
I would suggest avoiding, "Armed and Dangerous" because there are better titles to ZIP. If you watch the movie anyway, it will not be a complete waste of time (but it will be close).

This is one of the “Candy” classics. An ex-cop (Candy) and a former lawyer (Levy) team up as security guards and get mixed up in a company scandal and try to convince their boss’s daughter (Ryan) of their shocking finding. Quite a few funny moments, ranging from Candy and Levy in drag to wearing goofy Vegas style suits—all to get the companies evil plot out in the open. If you like the quirky basis of most Candy movies, you’ll like this one!
