Bad Boys
Uncut and Uncensored
Life has pushed him into a corner. Now he's coming out fighting.
Mick O'Brien (Sean Penn) is a young Chicago street thug torn between a life of petty crime and the love of his girlfriend (Ally Sheedy). But when the heist of a local drug dealer (Esai Morales) goes tragically wrong, Mick is sentenced to a brutal juvenile prison where violence is a rite of passage and respect is measured in vengeance. Can a bad boy on the edge of salvation find the heart to survive a manhood on the verge of murder?
Clancy Brown, Reni Santoni and Eric Gurry co-star in this gritty drama that sealed Sean Penn's reputation as the greatest young actor of his generation. Bad Boys is now presented complete and uncut, including footage not seen in previous DVD versions.

Sean Penn as a Bad Boy AND a mighty fine actor - snickerdoodle
I thought this movie was quite phenomenal. Having only seen Sean Penn in his much later work, it was quite the thing to see him as a young, and extremely talented already then, actor.
An interesting insight into a "youth prison" - I hope they are not like that for real.
Listening to the commentary, I realized that this movie was released about the same time as another big 80'es youth movie: "The Outsiders" and apparently "The Outsiders" stole most of the attention - Yeah, sure, I liked "The Outsiders" when I was 16, but as an adult I certainly think that this movie (Bad Boys) has a lot more depth to it, and it has most definitely aged very well - neither of these things can be said about "The Outsiders", which I also re-watched a few years ago and thinking how the memories of this movie was much better than the real thing. Some movies do not age well - Bad Boys is not one of them - but then again, I think that Sean Penn is fantastic, amazingly talented and very nice to look at, no matter what his age.
Sorry about the mumble-jumble - my best suggestion: Watch the movie - especially if you like prison movies!!!An interesting look at troubled youth - Treyrules
Clancy Brown (Shawshank Redemption corrupt prison guard) is good in this film as the leader in a corrupt juvenile center. He really embodies the role as a scumbag who helps his friend rape inmates and together they cash in on a cigarette vendor's business. He does a great job here. Penn as young as he is also makes a noteworthy performance. Besides Penn and Brown, the acting is somewhat funny to me, it looks a little amateurish and corny. Especially the scenes with Ally Sheedy and that soft music. It becomes overly dramatic and out of place in this gritty and grimey world that the film takes place in. Overall definitely worth watching at least once.Excellent movie - Spumantie
Sean Penn at his best as a young actor. This is a good story about a 'bad boy' in love but caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I honestly cannot watch the scene between his girlfriend and his enemy by the subway. I love the part when he breaks free to find her.
It is an excellent 'prison' movie without having to be too detailed.
A must see for any Sean Penn fan.
