Bartleby
Working Hard or Hardly Working?
When the newly appointed manager of a public records firm (David Paymer) decides his staff of three could use some help, he hires Bartelby (Crispen Glover), the one and only candidate who applies for the job. At first Bartelby is a model of efficiency, but before long, the eccentric employee starts refusing to do what he is told. With the repeated utterance - "I'd prefer Not To" - Bartelby inspires complete and utter chaos within the workplace. Based on Herman Mellville's classic short story "Bartelby, the Scrivener", this side-splitting comedy also stars Glenne Headly, Joe Piscopo, Maury Chaykin and Seymour Cassel.

Would Prefer not to.....watch till the end - Jimmy1
Having read the Melville story and seen the previous film version, I ordered this out of curiousity and because the story is a compelling one of not engaging in corporate/capitalist culture. Crispin Glover is an excellent Bartleby and the rest of the cast delivers fine performances - creating the mood of a dead workplace performing menial and trival work. If you are unfamilar with the story, however, this is lost on you. My friend was bored to tears in the first 20 minutes while I thought it is was captivating.
