Beat Street
Takin' the beat to the streets!
Brash, bold and breakin' all the rules, this powerful and "gritty, streetwise musical" (L.A. Herald Examiner) stars Rae Dawn Chong and Guy Davis. Featuring extraordinary break dancing, stunning graffiti art and the revolutionary rapping that launched a hip-hop generation, Beat Street serves up an electrifying display of "nonstop music and dancing" (The New York Times)!
When talented rapper/DJ Kenny (Davis) meets cultured jazz artist Tracy (Chong), he is so inspired by her dedication that he vows to use his talents to escape the ghetto. But when his friend, a gifted graffiti artist, is killed in a tragic accident, Kenny comes face-to-face with the high price of artistic passion. Now he has to choose between using his talents as a ladder to fame and fortune...or offering them up as a memorial to his friend.

I remember seeing this movie in the theaters when I was in 6th grade. Afterward people were battling (Breaking against eachother)everywhere! It truly brought the real hip hop culture to the big screen. The only other movie that comes close to showing the real hip hop culture is Wild Style.
This film is a true classic for Hip-Hop heads as it's one of the first films to represent the Hip-Hop culture in its truest form. If you're someone who has no idea what Hip-Hop consist of, this film has the four forms on display front and center with some of the greats making appearances, like Africa Bambatta, Rock steady crew, NYC breakers, Treatchous Three.
What's might surprise some is that there's actually a plotline, but it often staggers around in favour if the dance and rapping scenes. Still, worth a look and borderline three stars.Ahhhhh the 80's - Mykull
This movie totally takes me back to the days that I would watch it over and over again trying to copy the greatest break dancing moves that I have ever seen when I was a kid. I remembering trying to copy these guys all the way down to slapping cardboard down on my sidewalk to flip around on. Anyway, this movie is cheezie, but man its a great film... lots of great breakin' music, and the acting is pretty lame. Not to many well known people in this movie, but still the story line was okay.. but if you feel like being taken back to the breakin' days.. RENT IT
