Bell, Book and Candle
"A whimsical comedy with hilarity and romance in equal portions." - Variety
Meet Gillian Holroyd (Kim Novak), Greenwich Village's most seductive sorceress. Powerful, glamrous, and a wee bit bored, Gillian knows that witches can't fall in love. But they can have fun...especially if their lover belongs to another woman! So when Gillian discovers handsome new neighbor Shep Henderson (James Stewart) is the fiance of an old college nemesis (Janice Rule), she promptly puts the befuddled publisher under her spell. But while her sex may have heated up Shep's heart, it has also unthawed her own, leading to a romantic compilation that not even Pyewacket -- Gillian's mind-reading cat -- could have foreseen.

Bewitching Romantic Comedy! - Killergawp
Bell, Book and Candle is a modest and whimsical romantic comedy. Kim Novak is Gillian, a witch who enchants her neighbour Shep, played by the wonderful Jimmy Stewart. This film jumps through the usual "romantic" comedy hoops that you've seen before, but it seems far more innocent and enchanting because of it’s time and place - movie NY City in the 1950's. It’s noteworthy to mention that Jack Lemmon has a supporting role and he is zany and attractive as ever. There's a lot of witty lines as well, that I'll fail to quote except for this one: Queenie: "She's in love." Nicky Holroyd: "Wouldn't she rather be dead?".Cool in that 50's kind of way - Cine
Cute movie with a solid cast. Light fare. I saw if for the first time on late night tv and fell in love with the flic. I just had to see it again during daylight hours. If you think the story is too simple then enjoy the sets, costumes and properties (for which it got Academy recognition)and the fun Jack Lemmon seems to be having. Also, I can't seem to not like anything Jimmy is in. Did I mention that Kim Novak is very seductive in this? She is a definite 50's hottie.A cute work of witchcraft - Radio_Jane
You've gotta love Jimmy Stewart. even sorely miscast as a romantic lead (he seems like Novaks grandfather instead of her lover), he brings a sort of magic to the screen that few others could. This is a another trivial romantic comedy, and Novak is no help, overplaying the sex kitten persona so that the ending doesnt quite come off. As well Lemon, a great comic talent is sorely underused. However, it is still bewitching, a cute distraction, and it carries the mark of the Great Jimmy.
