Johnny Depp (Sleepy Hollow), Mary Stuart Masterson (Bed of Roses) and Aidan Quinn (Practical Magic) star in this wonderfully unique and delightfully offbeat romantic comedy.
Joon (Masterson) is a little unbalanced. Sometimes, without warning, her sweet nature gives way to odd behavior - including a penchant for setting fires! She lives with her older brother Benny (Quinn), who has spent his life taking care of her since their parents died. One night, while playing a poker game with unusual stakes, Joon loses her hand...and wins Sam (Depp), a whimsical misfit who soon charms his way into Joon's heart. Now if they can only find the perfect mate for her overprotective brother...
With charm, humor and an outstanding supporting cast that includes Oliver Platt (A Time To Kill) and Julianne Moore (Hannibal), Benny & Joon is the perfect movie for everyone.

cting is superb, as is writing and direction, which keep the story from ever seeming "cute". It is never condescending about mentally ill; I love line where Joon corrects Benny's score keeping of a ping-pong game:" the mentally ill can count, you know". Both serious and comic, like life. Imagine, a good film without violence, drug life, car chases or sex. See it.Cute quirky comedy - hilkayaker
I love Johnny Depp, he can do no wrong. This was a cute movie. Very fun light hearted comedy. i found it a little difficult to follow at times, but overall quite enjoyed it. Interesting storyline. Who wouldn't want Johnny Depp living with them?!!? Everyday would be an adventure with Benny or Joon around!Johnny Depp is Masterful - CrummyMovieHater
This is one of the most enchanting characters ever adopted by Johnny Depp and he absolutely nails it in every way. Like Robin Williams seemed to completely be Mrs. Doubtfire, Johnny Depp is Sam. If you have a heart and a sense of humour you will love this movie.
