Big Trouble In Little China
High adventure in an underground kingdom!
Directed by thrill master John Carpenter, this edge of your seat adventure stars Kurt Russell as Jack Burton, a tough talking, wisecracking truck driver whose hum drum life on the road takes a sudden supernatural tailspin when his best friend's fiancée is kidnapped. Speeding to the rescue, Jack finds himself deep beneath San Francisco's Chinatown, in a murky, creature filled world ruled by Lo Pan, a 2000 year old magician who mercilessly presides over an empire of spirits. Dodging demons and facing baffling terrors, Jack battles his way through Lo Pan's dark domain in a full throttle, action riddled ride to rescue the girl. Co-starring Kim Cattrall, this effects filled sci fi spectacle speeds to an incredible, twist taking finish.

Based on watching "The Thing" (which I enjoyed) that also starred Kurt and was directed by John Carpenter and the reviews on zip I thought "hey, this looks like it could be some silly fun. Unlike Escape From New York (which I loved as a kid) this film does capture any magic and is mired down with horrid special effects and a boring plot that makes little to no sense. There is a glimpse now and then of the humour it could have had and Kurt does his very best to make the film work but in the end this is one big fail. It doesn't work as a comedy, an action film or even a spoof of action films.Hilarious. - Radio_Jane
If you were to judge this movie as an action picture it wouldn't be worth your time. But as a comedy... well it ranks right up there with the Marx Brothers. The dialogue is immensly quotable, and Russel displays a great deal of comic timing. This is definately not high art, but a great guilty pleasure.Don't be Fooled - GinoAngelino
Don't be fooled -- this movie is actually a comedy. Essentially it's a spoof on many other action movies containing asian culture. It is brilliantly compiled with humour, romance, action, and satire. Definitely recommended if you enjoy movies of this genre.
