Birdy
"Two Thumbs Up!" - Siskel & Ebert
Soar to new heights in this spellbinding movie starring Matthew Modine and Nicolas Cage. To escape an irrational world, Birdy (Modine), a Vietnam veteran, sits in an almost catatonic state in an Army hospital, where he has come to believe he is one of the feathered creatures of his boyhood dreams. In an effort to break Birdy's silence, his psychiatrist brings in Al Columbato (Cage), Bird's loyal best friend of his youth. Al desperately tries to reach the disturbed Birdy and bring him back to reality. The answer may lie in their youth, where the eccentric Birdy first donned wings and the happy-go-lucky Al helped him to fly.

Not one of Cages or Bodeen's better moments. I guess it's was a good start in it's time, but it's lost it's appeal in today's world. I found it repetative, slow & unappealing. It didn't hold my interest at all. Can't say I'd recommend it, I was expecting much more. However, fortunately both actors have gone on to much bigger & better things.Friendship - action
Friendship is the main subject in this movie. How two different personalities might find something in common and more important, keep the friendship over the difficult time of war and their brutal experiences? Matthew Modine is absolutely fantastic, his Birdy is real, you fly with him over the scene. The cinematography in hospital, his pose and light shows the beautiful painting. Do not rent if you are looking for war movie, rent it out if looking for psychological journey.
