Black And White
"This is your ticket to ride!" -VIBE MAGAZINE
When Rich Bower (Oil "Power" Grant) decides to leave behind his life of crime and reinvent himself as a hip-hop impresario, he is confronted for the first time by the internecine dealings of the white world. Documentary filmmaker Sam Donager (Brooke Shields) and her fascinatingly perverse husband (Robert Downey Jr.) enter the scene as they follow a group of privileged uptown teenagers who, intrigued by Rich Bower (Power) and his crowd, find themselves drawn to the hip-hop lifestyle.

Wish I had paid attention to the other reviews and left this one in the warehouse.
Interesting-ish subject if you have kids in an urban school, but executed really really badly. The inclusion of Mike Tyson was completely laughable. Shocked that I actually let it play through.
Give it a miss.A mixed bag - betbjork
While the idea of Bijou Phillips having a threeway in a park is reason enough to rent this film, do not expect this movie to overly stimulate you. Ben Stiller's character begins as interesting then moves to over dramatic. Brooke and Robert's 'marriage' is a bigger sham than the movie portrays. And Elijah Woods is hard to take as a serious actor after Lord of the Bling Blings.
I did enjoy the social commentary discussed through the use of the rappers and the studio executive.Someone Needs To Make A Good Movie On this Subject - jjlook
This is a strange and unsubtle effort. Everyone, it seems, is in this movie--from Raekwon to Elijah Wood to Ben Stiller. Every character is analyzing race (though some unconsciously). Claudia Schiffer writes her graduate thesis on it (!), Brooke Shields and Robert Downey Jr. are married documentarians obsessed with it (!!), and even those not in the employ of analysis make many assumptions based on race. As many as most of us in North America do, really, just more self-consciously. It's painful to watch people struggle with assumptions and roles, and it's really painful to watch them flounder or make horrible choices. It's mortifying at times to see the wealthy white teens front as black people from the 'hood. Some parts of the movie are a bit preposterous, but cultural/racial/sexual assumptions are a rich subject for satire. I only wish the writing was as rich. Ultimately, a volatile topic and all the cameos in the world can't save this film from some clumsy, stupid assumptions of its own.
