Nothing Special - Just_Lacks_Zazz
This movie has been on my list for a very long time because a childhood friend of mine was in love with it and recommended it to me. Of course, this was some time ago so my standards have changed greatly since I was 14 years old. Unfortunately, I didn't account for this when I eagerly placed the film into my DVD player. What I saw was an entertaining shoot em up, poorly synced film with a cliche "super-soldier" story that I've seen a thousand times. This movie is mindless and the effects are incredibly outdated making the movie not really worth watching.
Overall I wouldn't recommend it... if you want to watch a movie with terribly dubbed English over Chinese watch a classic Jackie Chan movie like Rumble in the Bronx or Legend of the Drunken Master. That, or watch one of Jet Li's amazing movies... like Hero. 'Nuff said.Same Old Same Old. - Jeefster
Nothing new here, and because there's a #2 I figured this must have been a pretty good movie to warant a sequel.
Wrong.
It's nothing more than just your standard fare, a Chinese movie with unrealistic fight scenes, phony aerial acrobatics, and impossible bullet dodging. I mean, can't 10 bad guys hit the broad side of a barn with their machine guns pointed right at him from 20 feet away? A little side stepping seems to be all that's needed to avoid certain death. Hmm I'll have to try that sometime...
And then when Jet gets gun in hand he is able to spray bullets while flipping upside down and sideways and take out 10 soldiers in one quick movement. That's it. That's all it takes for me to start groaning and wishing I hadn't recieved #2 in the mail. Oh, just buckle down, Pardner! You can do this! You'll get through it alright if you just find that little button that says "fast forward".
You Go, Jet!
(Far away, preferably!)"Black Mask" Is V For Violence - bwod
Jet Li departs from his more traditional stories in this dark, stylish, and violent contemporary movie. I was expecting a lot of Kung Fu fighting, and I wasn't disappointed, however the over-the-top graphic violence was a bit much. If you enjoy militaristic shoot-outs and knife-fights including severed limbs and a great deal of blood-letting, then you may enjoy "Blask Mask". I can recommend it marginally, and I'll give it one thumb up.
