Blue Velvet
"An American Masterpiece." -Rolling Stone
Beneath the surface of small-town security lies a dark domain where innocents dare not tread and unpredictability is the norm. It is the haunting realm of Blue Velvet. Spawned from the mind of David Lynch (Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks), Blue Velvet is a "shocking, deeply disturbing... startling mixture of the heartfelt and the horrific" (Newsweek).
Clean-cut Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) realizes his Mayberry-like hometown is not so normal when he discovers a human ear in a field. His investigation catapults him into an alluring, erotic murder mystery involving a disturbed nightclub singer (Isabella Rossellini) and a drug-addicted sadist (Dennis Hopper). Soon Jeffrey is led deeper into their depraved existence... to the point of no return.

I hates this movie. What a mess. I simply don't get it or appreciate it... I hated this movie. I thought it was obviously weird, I just didn't like it. I read all of the positive reveiws and I think those people watched another movie. Or maybe they were high? Maybe it's a weed movie-I dunno...Suspenseful riveting odd movie - swissguy
This movie switches from quaint idyllic 50's suburbia to unsettling tense suspenseful scenes frequently and thus left me riveted. It is a mystery suspense thriller revealing to us the corruption and cruelty just beneath the surface of a small town in what appears to be the late 50's. All the actors are superb and Dennis Hopper is exceptional as the main evil character. He is almost as good at being evil as Heath Ledger was in The Dark Knight. I was left feeling a bit shaken, unsettled and edgy after watching this film but at the same time glad I watched it as it was different - a surreal painting turned cinema.A Brutal/Tender Masterpiece - JasonTHX
Much argued about (Even Today). David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" is a Haunting and powerful journey into darkness, obsession, terror and love. A unique and daring work that will stay with you for years after viewing. It's an exaggerated, twisted, violent look on small town America. After Starting out with picture-postcard Rockwellian images the film soon delves into elements of Hithcockian mystery and from there into a Kafkaesque nightmare.
The story is engrossing (Far-fetched? Absolutely but like a scary ride we go with the thrill.) and film feels tight despite it's intentional slow setup. This is done to care about the characters that are presented to us, so that by the time the story delves into the nightmare we are experiencing the nightmare as well. Along with the characters the events of "Blue Velvet" are also happening to us. The Acting from everyone is nakedly compelling. Isabella Rosselini is devastating but Dennis Hopper's much talked about Frank Booth is the stuff of Legend. More Brutal than Hannibal Lector and more fascinating than Norman Bates. Hopper's Frank will haunt you.
I've talked with women who have said that this film is Insulting to them. If that's what they feel I cannot debate that. You can't argue how a person feels towards a certain work of art. I can only say this movie opned up my idea of what a movie can be, what it can do and how it can make you feel. It is one of the most important works ever brought to film. I feel Hitchcock would have been proud. Love it or despise it, "Blue Velvet" is one to be experienced.
