Boxing Helena
A Deep, Dark Obsession That Bares A Woman's Body And A Man's Soul

Fantasy, desire and manipulation make for a savory-yet-volatile cocktail in this psychological thriller about a woman held captive by a man who loves her. First-time writer/director Jennifer Chambers Lynch (The Diary of Laura Palmer) brings "stylistic flair" (The Washington Post) to this haunting, erotic tale of love and lust that straddles the fine line between devotion and obsession.

Nick Cavanaugh (Julian Sands, Timecode) is a brilliant surgeon who seems to have it all - money, looks, prestige - but all he wants is someone he can't have... a voluptuous, cold-hearted seductress: Helena (Sherilyn Fenn,Three of Hearts). After Nick fails to impress her with his wealth, Helena is struck down by a hit-and-run driver outside his mansion. The good doctor saves her life by amputating her legs, then seizes the opportunity of her immobility to hold her prisoner. Now, he's in control of Helena's body, but not her mind, for this shrewd, quick-thinking vixen is hell-bent on keeping Nick on his toes in order to foil his selfish plan to have her not only as a trophy wife...but as his personal Venus de Milo.

Unfocused and unsatisfying - clauditorium
Unfocused film has a compelling weirdness and a few striking images and moments, but it leads nowhere. The ending is inconclusive and very unsatisfying. Julian Sands’ character is odd and pathetic. Sherilyn Fenn is thrillingly mean; she adds a lot to the film.
excellent psychoanalytic movie - cipilica

this is messed up - Mr._Critical
Seriously, this movie is disturbing, and not in a good way. If you enjoy being depressed, by all means check it out. It was in very poor taste, trying to con Kim Bassinger into having anything to do with this. Scores 100 out of 100 for creepiness.
