A heart-warming story - eyewitness
This movie about a Road-Trip turned Life-Journey will make you laugh and cry and feel like you were a part of the story. We get to be voyeurs into how the characters circumstances and relationships shape their self-identity. It is deeply moving and highly recommended. ...but it's a pretty good one, mostly due to the strong performances. And with a title like Boys on the Side, it's not pretending to be anything else.
Whoopi Goldburg does her best work here since The Color Purple, playing a lesbian woman dealing with the fact that she's in love with someone she can never have. It's a touching, sad performance.
Mary Louise Parker is an HIV positive woman, at a time when this was more mainstream, but still a little taboo of a subject to tackle. She's tough, and doesn't want pity. Her character is refreshingly without self-pity as well.
Drew Barrymore is adorable in this movie, lighting up the screen in every scene she's in, and providing a light tone to what could have been an overly melodramatic film.
Mathew McConaughey does for this movie what Brad Pitt did for Thelma & Louise - injects a bit of male sexiness.
You might not want to subject your boyfriend to this, but it's a great pick for a night in with the girls.this is a movie every woman should watch - movie_goer
This is a stunning and under rated movie, over looked by many. i enjoyed watching this true elegent and tactful yet woman power inspired movie.its focus is AIDS/HIV how it not only effects the one who has it but those around you. whoopi is honest and pure, drew Barrymore gutsy to play the role and strong in keeping her stand, each person has some influence on the other, almost like a chain reaction. crazy as it may be it starts as a road trip and ends as a life long journey. i encourage you to watch. i cried. i laughed and i listened.
