Brigham Young
A Stirring Chapter From America's Frontier Past!
Academy Award winner Dean Jagger (1949, Best Supporting Actor, Twelve O'Clock High) stars in this inspirational film, based on the real-life saga of one group's victory over oppression and hardship.
After the death of the Mormons' founding leader Joseph Smith (Vincent Price), Brigham Young (Jagger) sets out to lead his people westward to Utah, a "promised land" where they can escape religious persecution. But the trip's challenges are more than just man versus untamed land, as trail scout Jonathan Kent (Tyrone Power) discovers when he falls in love with a non-Mormon (Linda Darnell) in this riveting film about the Mormon settling of Salt Lake City.

The Mormons and the Founding of Salt Lake City - MovieProf
I am not overly religious, so "Brigham Young" did not stir me as it might have others. However, the story is engaging enough: the Mormons, hopelessly persecuted in one American state after another, finally decide under the leadership of Brigham Young to move west, away from all the turmoil. Along the way, they encounter hazardous conditions, but eventually settle in the area known as present day Salt Lake City.
There are some strong performances here: Tyrone Power, Linda Darnell, Vincent Price, and Dean Jagger as Brigham Young (although Jagger's name is curiously well below the others in the opening credits). As well, sweeping landscapes make this an entertaining way to spend a few hours.not a documentary - Attila
When I rented this movie, it was with a documentary in mind, so the movie was a bit of a let down. Thank goodness for the commentary, which gives an accurate depiction of these events and shows the errors Hollywood.
If you want to watch a western heavy on religion, then watch the movie. If your intereste in watching a biography, watch the commentaryhistory or hollywood - ghostman
This movie recounting the story of Brigham Young and the plight of the Mormans in an effort to find a place of there own while has some bases in historical fact went Hollywood. There is no denying the persecution of the Mormans this film should have attempted to explore the reasons for this. the movie was a direct take off and has the similarities of Moses leading the children of Isreal out of Egpt with Chsrles Heston.
