Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
The action takes place as the childless couple visit Brick's parents at their sprawling Southern plantation. Rip Torn plays Big Daddy, the Irascible, domineering family patriarch who is dying of cancer while his family gathers to find out how his fortune will be devided.
Tennesse Williams has captured a searing and completely telling moment in the lives of a group of achingly real characters.

This is the wrong image for this TV version of Cat. Zip is using the 1960s Taylor-Newman. This is actually Lange and Lee from the 1980s.

I have never watched this version but would like to someday.Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - piph
Love the theatre? You'll love this. This is a beautiful Tennessee Williams play with a really strong cast. The deep south it's set in is so exquisitly detailed in voice and setting and movement. The superb character development and different layers of writing are strong on paper with Williams', but with Jessica Lange, Tommy Lee Jones, and Rip Torn - the play comes to life to show the many disparate aspects of humans - animalistic and base mixed with intellect and heart.Original Version Far Better - GadgetHound
This updated version is shot in a theatre/play format and is not a movie. You get the impression that you're watching a highschool play shot with a cheap camcorder. If you saw the original version of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman (which is still rivetting) you will be disappointed by this 1984 remake. The acting (not believable, poor accents which often lapse) the sets (looks like a Three's Company 80's stage) and the poor casting (Sister Woman looks like a 60 year old grandmother and she's pregnant!!!) all work against this remake.
