Citizen Kane
Orson Welles' timeless masterwork (#1 in the American Film Institute's 1998 list of Best American Movies) is more than a groundbreaking film. Presented here in a magnificent 60th anniversary digital transfer with revitalized digital audio from the highest quality surviving elements (Disc One), it is also grand entertainment, sharply acted (starting many of Welles' Mercury Players on the road to thriving film careers) and superbly directed with inspired visual flair. Depicting the controversial life of an influential publishing tycoon, this Best Original Screenplay Academy Award® winner (1941) is rooted in themes of power, corruption, vanity -- the American Dream lost in the mystery of a dying man's last word: "Rosebud."

3 words to best describe Citizen Kane: Brilliant, Unique and Lucky.
The 1941 black & white Motion Picture awards the title of being a "Greatest film ever made", and remains 1 of Orson Welles best credits during his life long Film Career.
He also reigned as a controversial actor and at times eccentric power tool (almost identical of Mr. Kanes persona).
Hollywood Trivia: Citizen Kane was Orson Welles most pivetal moment in his 30 year career, because he had alot more to lose if he failed to get the film into theatres within 1 year. A budget of $200,000 tripled, but grossed over 2 million worldwide. 1 of the biggest profits in Hollywood during the 2nd world war. But due to investment bankers pulling out and very little support from Corporate headquaters (Universal of Warner Bros.) Orson Welles did the unthinkable.
He financed his own film, wrote the script, directed and produced Citizen Kane all on his own. What could have been disastorous- made him richer than he could have ever dreamt. And proved a very valuable point: If you believe in something so profoundly- it's worth making sacrifices. The movie also freed him, from his puppet string contract and made him the most Powerful/Influental man in Hollywood alongside Charles Chaplin. Definetly a faught worth fighting.overated - JOE52
This movie didn't catch our attention. We didn't find it good. We understand that it was filmed in 1941 but I can't really know why we didn't like the movie. It probably didn't helped being called the best movie of all time. We had so much expectations about the movie
Nous n'avons absolument pas accroché sur ce film. Pour le meilleur film de tous les temps, nous avons ete decu.believe the hype - clauditorium
Inventive, brash, energetic, supremely clever drama with a witty, intelligent, incisive script is full of powerful scenes. Well-acted, carefully made, painstakingly detailed, and technically exhilarating – there is a wealth of astounding shots. A dramatic, eerie music score and exceptional cinematography. As the title character, Orson Welles goes from charismatic to scary. Agnes Moorhead makes a stark impression as his mother. Welles’ passion for the medium is palpable.
