I am glad I didn't buy this one but it is definitely worth watching as a fan. There are some seriously magical monents to be witnessed here such as the disection of songs track by track and Robertson & Danko playing by themselves. The footage of Garth Hudson is worth the admission price alone. Sadly though this is the best made documentry of all time.. the concert footage is a little on the poor side and even though it's not that old it still looks pretty dated. Still though if you are a fan this will no doubt be enjoyable.Essential Viewing for fans of "The Band" - TheShamus
The "Classic Albums" series from VH1 is a documentary approach to Rock Albums which are classified as "Classic". The selections date from the past four decades. In this case, Classic Albums tackles, "The Band" with their self-titled album.
I need to admit that I am not a fan of, "The Band", however many of their bigger hits will be known to most. They had a substantial influence on many other groups. The definitive selection for this group is the film, "The Last Waltz". However, the Classic Albums series has focus on this album ... and steps through all of the songs on the album.
All surviving members of the band are interviewed --- and in additional to the regular documentary, there are extra features added for the sake of the DVD by Rhino. There are not as many "full songs" as some of the series contains.
While it helps to be a fan of the group, there are plenty of interesting tidbits that audiophiles will surely enjoy.
Another recommended release, but not the strongest of the series by any means.
