Cobra
Crime is a desease. Meet the cure.
Like Sylvester Stallone's Rocky and Rambo, the hero of Cobra is another original: Lt. Marlon Cobretti, a one-man assault force whose laser-mount submachine gun and pearl handled Colt .45 spit pure crimestopping venom.
Rambo: First Blood Part II director rejoins Stallone for this thriller pitting Cobretti against a merciless serial killer. The trail leads to not one murderer but to an army of psychos bent on slashing their way to a "New Order"- and killing the inadvertent witness to their latest blood spree. Fortunately, Cobra is her protector. And full throttle screen excitement doesn't get any better.

Cobra (1986) - DougInPeterborough
Incredibly ridiculous Dirty Harry rip-off, even going as far to borrow Reni Santoni and Andrew Robinson from the 1971 film. Action packed, though reeking of conservative 80s values, and featuring some god-awful music. Sylvester Stallone stars as Marion Cobretti, a cop with an attitude who plays by his own rules. When a cult starts targeting a "beautiful" model (reality star Brigitte Nielsen), Cobra's unique method of police work (and his near-invincible 1950 Mercury vehicle) is brought in to protect her. Over the top set pieces, as can be expected from the director of Rambo: First Blood Part 2, but montage scenes come off like bad 80s music videos. Fans of 80s mindless action flicks will love it, but this is the sort of film that revels in its own cliches.
Watch out for plenty of recognizable faces, including David Rasche (Sledgehammer!) and infomercial pitchman Joe Fowler as a reporter.Big Dumb Fun - Superdave
This is not a good movie. Actually it's big loud brain-damaged mess. Brigitte Neilsen can't act and Sly doesn't bother to try, giving the movie no romantic chemistry whatsoever between leads that actually married each other! The stunts and action sequences are routine and the plot about a cop protecting a witness is so hackneyed as to be beyond predictable. That said, if you like to see car chases and expended shell casings, there were an AWFUL lot of worse such movies made in the 80s. An okay time waster.Crime is the Disease. Meet the Cure!, - JulioSof
Sylvester Stallone... obviously not in his best movie, after doing Rocky and First Blood. I do think though as a cold blooded detective, working the zombie squad, protecting this one girl who was the only living witness to see the "Night Thrasher" killers face. Stallone fit the character perfectly.
Brigette Nielsen... now I do think some other actress could've played this part a bit better, portraying the witness. Nielsen did a decent enough job though, doing just as good as she did in Beverly Hills Cop II(Eddie Murphy).
Brian Thompson... one actor I love to see play a villian in anything. As the Night Thrasher serial killer, he plays one lunatic that really doesn't need any motive to kill. Killing the weak so the strong shall survive... that's enough motive to go out and kill right?
Reni Santoni(28 Days, Private Parts) as Stallone's partner who always eats junkfood was funny. Andrew Robinson(Hellraiser) was a good pain in the butt to Stallone as the snot nose detective. I thought this was a good supporting cast.
The late George P. Cosmatos, deserves a little credit for this doesnt he? His next two movies were Leviathan(Peter Weller), and Tombstone(Kurt Russell)... which weren't that bad either. He did his best working with Stallone, in this action thriller.
I agree, the dvd is pretty weak but at least it gave a commentary of the director... half of the dvd's out there don't. Why did the killer, Jack The Ripper... cut out the female organs of one of his lady victums? Why would terrorists bomb anything? They want to put us into fear, when in reality they're a bunch of cowards altogether. Stallone as a hero has been proven... chasing after the few dozen of killers who breed in Los Angelos city.
For the regular movie fanatic this movie is 4 stars... but for me this was an easy 5!
