Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
"One Of The Greatest Movies Ever Made!" -Joel Siegel, Good Morning America
Two master warriors (Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh) are faced with their greatest challenge when the treasured Green Destiny sword is stolen. A young aristocrat (Zhang Ziyi) prepares for an arranged marriage, but soon reveals her superior fighting talents and her deeply romantic past. As each warrior battles for justice, they come face to face with their worst enemy - and the inescapable, enduring power of love.

Solid martial arts flick. - estefan
When I first watched Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon almost eleven years ago, I hated it. Now, having delved more into Asian cinema, I definitely appreciate it a lot more. While the first half is slightly meandering and full of expositional scenes, it really picks up in the second half. The character of Jen becomes especially developed and the conflicting torment of her inner demons are well-handled. Of course, the star of this film is really the martial arts. Every move is delicately choreographed and I noticed not a single false move on the part of the actors and stunt-men. Director Ang Lee doesn't let these scenes get repetitive and during the strong second half actually uses it to help the story and develop the character's motivations. Crouching Tiger is not ground-breaking by any means, but it succeeds in being a well-made piece of martial arts cinema.Okay, so they float a lot - horrorshow
At first, it's hard to get past the choreography because the fight scenes involving the elite class of fighters are incredible. I've seen it a few times since then, and admittedly, watching the fighting while they're floating becomes less impressive after a few viewings.
However, there is nothing wrong with the story, either. The three leads are exceptionally written. With each viewing I am amazed about the level of intelligence each main character shows in addressing their situation and dealing with their problems. No character is treated poorly and the conflict that results rings true because each character has problems that are not easily resolved. Who is the villain? Jade Fox aside, there is no character that easily fits this role and there is no resolution that easily resolves this film. The ending is confusing... maybe one day I'll sit there and go "oh, I get that!"This movie is simply gorgeous - Day-
As a kid I sat through many martial arts movies, my dad loved them. I've always avoided them like the plague. Now that I'm older films like these take me back and I appreciate the genre.
This movie was beyond anything Hollywood or western culture could produce. It was perfection. It looked gorgeous, China is the most exotic country on the planet and Lee films it perfectly. But he doesn't go over board, this film is about the people not the scenery.
Zhang Ziyi is the true star of this film, she is perfect for the role. She has an intensity you don't often see, not in Western actors that is.
The story is epic, the desert scene caught me off guard, this movie sent me on an emotional roller coaster. The fight scenes are more like watching a fast paced but beautiful dance. The wire work took some getting used to at first but it works.
The acting was perfection. I love the way Ang filmed the actors speaking Chinese instead of English. The dubbed version is not even worth watching.
It's a gorgeous love story with perfect fight scenes. It kept me totally drawn in and entertained, I would recommend it to anyone.
