the film is not as good as a hitchcock ,where he just suggests terrifying things. i did enjoy the cheesy outdatedness of it. the actors had amazing, deep voices and were strong characters.i loved the black and white quality of the film and the lighting was fantastic.it kept my attention and i think it is a good film to rent, if you want a variety.Reaching - Chucky
I first saw this film when I was about four years old. It was never repeated on TV nor released on video, at least where I live. Overall the movie is an excellent piece of work and would have been monster or not. The monster may have been campy but provides a great reference point. I did not think of Dana Andrews when I cam across this DVD on Zip, I remembered the creature. Granted, the hand swipes are pretty lame but the special effect of the monster's appearance was as good as anything they're doing these days that isn't computer generated.Curse of the Studio - London_Reader
This film was well built up in my mind before I watched it. I understood that it was one of the better thrillers from the 1950s. Having not watched very many films of that kind, I went in expecting an unusually fine production. Clearly, I wanted too much. However, despite my excitement and bit of disappointment, I ended up enjoying this film. Even though the is somewhat dated, the atmosphere has stuck with me. I read that the Demon was not supposed to be included, that it was filmed and edited in after the director had handed in his final print. If this is true and the silly monster scenes were left out, then this would be a very eerie piece of storytelling. Compelling, interesting and ambiguous.
