Damage
With love comes risk. With obsession comes...
Jeremy Irons and Juliette Binoche are lovers locked in the grip of sexual obsession. Obsession so strong it drinks passion, breathes fire and consumes everything and everyone it touches. Director Louis Malle peels back the layers of one family's tragedy to reveal a middle-aged man and his son's fiancée entangled in an intensely erotic affair that is as irresistible as it is destructive.

steamy and suspenseful, this is a must see for every Jeremy irons fan. Ever the chameleon, Jeremy is a natural as a satisfactorily married politician who doesn't know what he's missing until it finds him at a cocktail party and then in his own home. Filmed in acts, it feels a little like a play...Excellent to-the-edge steamy erotic drama. A fairly gripping ending. - moviemonger
Damage can be described as sexy, sexual, and gloomy. The plot revolves around a dangerous attraction, a love triangle, and power relations. The main genres are drama and independent. In approach, Damage is serious and realistic. It takes place in the 1990s. It is based on a book. Damage has received attention for being an award winner. The film is as unsettling as it is compelling, although this clinically cold narrative style robs the film of any humanity and weakens the characterisation. With a less impressive cast, the film, with its wooden script and overly sign-posted tragic conclusion, would probably appear absurd. It is thanks largely to the enigmatic and brooding performances of its lead actors that the film manages to hold its audience and transcend its obvious structural and artistic weaknesses.Muted but absorbing and deep - clauditorium
Jeremy Irons’ character has an affair with his son’s fiancée, which leads to some tense, interesting situations. Muted but absorbing, deep, clear-eyed exploration of the emotional mechanics of an affair. The climax is a forgivable deus ex machina.
The film is held together by the intense actresses. You can’t take your eyes off of Miranda Richardson, and Juliette Binoche is mesmerizing – mysterious while remaining human.
Director Louis Malle knows who to point the camera at, when, and for how long, resulting in a rich texture.
