David and Lisa
David is a 17-year old who lives in constant fear of being physically touched. Lisa is a 15-year old schizophrenic who only speaks in rhyme, when she speaks at all. Eventually, the two form an emotional bond that leads to a profoundly moving climax.

Crazy In Love - ScrewballDame
The film is shot like so many of the new wave films of the late fifties, early sixties in a very natural unobtrusive way, almost like a documentary. It’s based on a real case study of two teenage mental patients who fall in love. We first meet David, a well groomed teenager in a suit, as he’s being dropped off at the psychiatric school by his mother. A student welcomes David and touches his shoulder which makes David scream, “Are you trying to kill me?” This is how we learn of his debilitating fear of being touched, which causes David to isolate himself from his fellow classmates. He moves his desk away from them in class. He refuses to join any of their clubs or participate in any sports, or games with them. He spends most days in the common room where a schizophrenic patient named Lisa draws pictures under the constant supervision of her psychiatrist. She hops around the room chanting, childish rhymes. He finds this annoying until he discovers Lisa rhymes to distinguish herself from her alter ego Muriel who doesn’t speak at all. David answers one of Lisa’s rhymes with his own rhyme, which triggers a tenuous relationship. This is a very moving love story of two lonely teenagers who have trouble trusting anyone, but somehow manage to let one another into their lives which leads to breakthroughs in their treatments. I highly recommend this film made by the husband and wife directing/writing team of Frank and Eleanor Perry.
