Desperado
Antonio Banderas, Joaquim de Almeida, Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, Cheech Marin and Quentin Tarantino star in this stylish shoot-’em-up described as a south-of-the-border Pulp Fiction.
Director Robert Rodriguez follows up his legendary debut film, El Mariachi, with this sexy sequel about a mysterious guitar player (Banderas) searching for vengeance against the men who murdered his girlfriend.
El Mariachi
All he wants is to be a mariachi, like his father, his grandfather and his great grandfather before him. But the town he thinks will bring him luck brings only a curse—of deadly mistaken identity. Forced to trade his guitar for a gun, the mariachi is playing for his life in this critically-acclaimed film debut from director Robert Rodriguez.

An interesting duo of film. El Mariachi I thought was best watched with the director's running commentary, as frankly it's fairly boring on its own. With Rodriguez' explaining how the film was made though, it becomes much more interesting, and a great source of inside info for budding film directors.
Desperado is obviously what most people are renting the DVD for, and as long as you want wild action, you will not be disappointed. You know it has to be a blood fest when Quentin Tarantino makes a guest appearance, and Cheech Marin is always good as a scuzzy low life. Add Steve Buscemi for character and Salma Hayek for, well, you know what, and hold onto your seat! Just don't expect this to make a lot of sense, that's not the point here, it's strictly for (gory) fun.Buyer Beware - auntisam
Desperado is a great film. It marks the beginning of movies featuring strictly random acts of violence. The director is obviously thumbing his nose at everyone, making fun of everything possible. The only problem with this movie duo is that "El Mariachi" is available in English only with the director's commentary...big disappointment.
