In the sweltering summer of 1958, the Deuces, a gang of Brooklyn toughs, find their turf threatened when the leader of a rival gang, the Vipers, is released from prison. Leon (Dorff), the Deuce's leader, tries to guide his boys through bloody brawls to keep the Vipers out. But when his brother (Renfro) falls into a sultry - and dangerous - relationship with Annie (Balk), the sister of a Viper, and his own girlfriend is brutally attacked, Leon and his gang are plunged into an all out war to save his brother, his girl - and his neighborhood!

A star rising - blasters
Stephen Dorf's star is rising and Deuces Wild is the perfect piece for him to shine in. Leon and Bobby are brothers who run a street gang known as the "deuces". It is their job to protect the neighborhood from hoods and drug dealers. When a rival gang ,"the vipers", start dealing heroin in their hood, they decide to stop at nothing to stop them and protect their turf.Missing Pieces - mittymitts
I zipped this film after re-watching The Basketball Diaries which, as a side note, has aged well. Unfortunately, Deuces Wild doesn't make good use of an all-star cast or its promising director. Kalvert's visual tricks fall flat and the script (as well the acting) leaves much to be desired. Was everything this lame in the 50's? There are a plethora of "deuce" related jokes and references that I could make here about the stench emanating from this film. No wonder this was Kalvert's last film. But hey, "Deuces forever, right?"
