A pretty basic "buddy film", loosely based on the tv show Dragnet. By today's standards, this is pretty much light fare and may provide some nostalgia for those who enjoyed 80's comedy films. Ackroyd and Hanks are polar opposites in the LAPD, teamed up to investigate crimes being committed by the mysterious group "PAGAN".What's not to like? - Aneke
There's nothing better than a good Tom Hanks 80s comedy. While I utterly enjoyed Dan Ackroyd's turn as Joe Friday (I thought he had that part down pat - his tone was EXACTLY the same as the old radio serial), it was Tom Hanks that made this movie stand out. There's just something about the way he makes his eyes bug out that makes me giggle. And Captain Von Trapp as the bad guy? Christopher Plummber is my hero! For fans of the original series. - cathyottawa
Dan Aykroyd does an absolutely amazing job of recreating Joe Friday of the original Dragnet TV series. As the descriptor says, he gets his every inflection just right.
But, let's face it, this isn't Ben Kingsley playing Ghandi, or Helen Mirren portraying the Queen. And they've stuck the Joe Friday character in a silly 80s cops and robbers caper.
There are some chuckles to be gained from the "odd couple" schtick Aykroyd and Tom Hanks partake in. But this won't have you rolling in the aisles. It's a typical goofball 80s comedy.
Those old enough to remember the show will be impressed by Aykroyd, and surely tickled to see Harry Morgan reprise his original role.
