Easy Rider
"An astonishing work of art and an overpowering motion picture experience." -Los Angeles Times
Experience the real, uncensored '60s counterculture in this compelling mixture of drugs, sex and armchair politics. Nominated for an Academy Award (1969) for Best Screenplay (written by Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Terry Southern) Easy Rider continues to touch a chord with audiences of all ages.

Iconic - KevinJaques
Produced and starring Peter Fonda, probably with Daddy’s money, directed and starring Dennis Hopper. It's very 60's, with hippies, and anti-heroes, drugs, and a fear and resentment of older people. Once again, the American southern man was vilified as a murderous monster. Ugly too.
There wasn't a plot, as such, so it lacks a logical conclusion. The ending sacrificed plausibility for a convenient and symbolic way to end the movie. It short, the ending was stupid.
Still, I found it generally amiable and enjoyable, as they cruised through the gorgeous American southern scenery on ridiculous motorcycles, meeting drug dealers, hippies, and young girls and other locals. It found itself quite a bit too deep. In a very 60s way, it left a big question unanswered, what did ever-so-deep Peter Fonda mean when he said, "We blew it man!"
Jack Nicholson had a supporting role. God, he looked young! But the half evil half fun loving grin shtick was in full operation. Around Saskatchewan, we call it a shit–eating grin, though I have no idea why.
You’ve got to see it. It’s iconic. What's not to understand - Bmoviemadness
The reviewers before me dont understand why Easy Rider was important. It's important because before this movies were all pretty and proper. They didnt think the dirty gorilla filmmaking style would work or sell, but were proving wrong. This open the door for a bunch of up and coming directors to make films that would never had gotten made. This movie also captures the hippie life perfect, with all the labels and prejudice towards them.
