Election
Reading. Writing. Revenge.
Reese Witherspoon plays Tracy Flick, a straight-A go-getter determined to be president of Carver High's student body. Popular teacher Jim McAlister (Broderick) decides to derail Tracy's obsessive overachieving by recruiting an opposition candidate. Mr. M. never imagines that stopping Tracy is like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube.

Wonderful, tart comedy - eli_quincy
"Election" is a black-as-night comedy about an ambitious overachiever and the high-school teacher who simply loathes her. Reese Witherspoon is hilarious in the lead role while Matthew Broderick's simmering frustration is played perfectly for laughs, and, eventually, something more. If you like Alexander Payne's other films, you'll love this.excellent satirical comedy - vadim
If you've watched any of Alexander Payne's films (About Schmidt, Sideways, Citizen Ruth), you'll know that he loves to make satirical comedies. Election is no different. Reese Witherspoon (Tracey Flick) is great as the perfectionist who must always be on top and doesn't care who she hurts in the process. Matthew Broderick is also very good as a conflicted teacher who tries hard to make Tracey lose the election. Overall this is a very entertaining, funny film that never loses your interest. Definetely reccommended!!Remember that girl in high school? - cathyottawa
The one that was super smart, and joined every club, and ran for student council? Didn't you just want to kill her?
This is how Mathew Broderick feels as a teacher who is sick to death of Tracy Flick, and her know-it-all ness. In an effort to knock her down a peg, Broderick convinces the most popular guy in school to run against Tracy for student body president.
It's a decision that puts into motion a series of events that turns his life upside down.
Reese Witherspoon is just perfect as Tracy Flick - the little go getter who knows just what she wants, and just how to get it.
And Mathew Broderick does his best work in years as the weary teacher, who's having a year where nothing goes right.
This is darkly funny, and the Minnisota accents give it a Fargo feel that adds to the charm.
