This is strange. I remember when I was in elementary school thinking that this was the funniest movie ever made. It just goes to show what a bit of time and experience does for you.
I agree with the above reviewer, this is the best of the Ernest movies, unfortunately that simply does not say much for the other Ernest movies.
None of this is Jim Varney's fault, the man simply throws himself into the role and would be hilarious given the right script. Unfortunately, the material just is not here, and the jokes fall very very flat.
Not recommended. The very best of Ernest... - Krimson_King
This is the one to watch. It's the Ernest film I had a child and one of the first VHS tapes I ever wore out. Ernest is a natural at Camp and all the slapstick reminds me of a good lampoon movie. The chemistry between characters is great and the plot is even plausible compared to other Ernest films! This is a classic in my book.not my favourite but - Lori
my 5 and 7 year old boys thought it was hilarious and laughed so hard throughout the whole movie! They usually aren't into anything except cartoons but this movie and its slapstick humor really got their attention and held it from the start to the very end!
