Escape From Alcatraz
Superstar Clint Eastwood and director Don Siegel re-team for their fifth film in this fascinating account of the only three men ever to escape from the infamous maximum security prison at Alcatraz. In 29 Years, the seemingly impenetrable federal penitentiary, which housed Al Capone and "Birdman" Robert Stroud, was only broken once - by three men never heard of again.
Eastwood portrays Frank Morris, the cunning bank robber who masterminded the elaborately detailed and, as far as anyone knows, ultimately successful, escape. Patrick McGoohan is superb counterpoint as the suspicious warden. Filmed on location in Alcatraz, this gritty and realistic reenactment of the true story has all the power one expects of an Eastwood/Siegel movie.

This is a very well produced movie. They picked the right actors for thios movie being based on a true story. They could not have done this any better. The story line and plot were not drugged out to long and you see a different side of Clint Eastwood in his early away from hi Dirty Harry character.ESCAPAE FROM ALCATRAZ - zippo
ONE OF MY FAVORITE PRISON MOVIES. BASED ON TRUE STORY EASTWOOD PLAYS FRANK MORRIS WHO IS ONE OF 3 MEN TO ESCAPE THE FAMOUS PRISON BACK IN THE 60'S (WHICH BY THE WAY I THINK THEY MADE IT). MORRIS GETS 3 OTHERS INVOLVED WITH HIS ESCAPE PLAN AND AFTER MONTHS OF PLANNING AND WORKING THEY MAKE THEIR ATTEMPT. I THINK THE MOVIE WAS SO WELL DONE AND THE CAST WAS GREAT. FRED WARD GOT HIS START IN THIS MOVIE AND HAS A STRONG PERFORMANCE IN THIS. IF YOU LIKE THIS MOVIE YOU SHOULD ALSO GIVE THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION A TRY.Classic Eastwood... - Coconut_Willy
...but not necessarily a great movie. The storyline is interesting but overall is a bit thin to provide enough material for a full-length feature. The development is as good as possible with the limited elements available and is augmented by semi-relevant side plots. One can quickly realize that some of the characters were put in this movie in an attempt to flesh it out and although it did help a bit, in the end, they are so stereotypical that they diminish its value. The cast is quite good doing a fine acting job with an interesting dialogue but not so exciting characters. The sets and locations are good, the soundtrack is a bit odd and the camera work is OK. Overall, it is worth watching especially if you are a Clint Eastwood fan but it is a fairly average prison movie.
