Escape From New York (Special Edition)
A thrilling landmark film that jolts along at a breakneck pace, Escape From New York leapt to cult status with high-octane action, edge-of-your-seat suspense and a mind-blowing vision of lone warrior Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) battling his way out of a post-apocalyptic Manhattan! Hailed as "stylish and scary" (Los Angeles Times), "dark and dangerous" (Newsweek) and "gloriously...fun" (Tyler Morning Telegraph), this furiously entertaining thriller grabs you by the throat and won't let go!
In a world ravaged by crime, the entire island of Manhattan has been converted into a walled prison where brutal prisoners roam. But when the US president (Donald Pleasence) crash-lands inside, only one man can bring him back: notorious outlaw and former Special Forces war hero Snake Plissken (Russell). But time is short. In 24 hours, an explosive device implanted in his neck will end Snake's mission - and his life - unless he succeeds!

this is a classic film if there ever were one. Kurt Russel is great here and the story is good be it a bit campy but that is what was intended I am sure. The effects for a movie done in the early eighties are very good. If you like Russel and you like action movies this is for youStill a classic - Gaucho
Why is Beowulf still read? The story is simple and appeals to our base appetites. Why do we still watch this film? Same reason.
Carpenter's simplicity is to take an anti-hero, put him in a familiar environment that has turned anarchic, and see what happens.
Are there better action films in recent times? Kind of, but they still don't carry that primordial wallop this one does.Doomsday - Patrick6
This movie raises lots of questions: why does the President of the United States have a British accent? Why do the supposedly vicious criminals mostly look like Broadway backup dancers? Why is Kurt Russel wearing my sister's super-tight pants? Nevertheless this movie is entertaining, if for no other reason the sheer 80's doominess of the plot.
