A riveting thriller in the powerful tradition of Reservoir Dogs, Essex Boys stars Alex Kingston (TV's ER, The Croupier) and Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings, Ronin) in an unforgettable story about a dark criminal underworld where seduction and betrayal are a way of life! When ex-con Jason Locke (Bean) is released from prison, he returns home and realizes that his old cohorts have all profited from the empire he helped build. Trusting no one and attempting to restore his reputation and authority, he sets off a chain of events that shakes up the underworld! Also starring Tom Wilkinson (The Patriot, Shakespeare In Love) and Charlie Creed-Miles (The Fifth Element) - the action explodes with Locke's maniacal bid to shift the balance of power!

This movie might not be of the caliber of Snatch and others, but definitively in the same line. It is well done and the plot is twisty enough to keep you interested all along.
The characters displayed by the actors are not meant to please. They are pretty raw. Not a typical sugary American film. This is mutch better!

Essex is a county in England. Our family have an
Essex girl, so she can partly relate to the film.
It is not a good English film, scenes where gunfire blows out a car is somehow not British.
Their killing is usually more refined.
The actors play a reasonably part, the photography
is fair, the story is somewhat juvenile and
could have been better .
The type of crime and the methodology of carrying
out the discussions, the non-violent action, etc
is typically British criminal action (we think).
You may enjoy it as long as you do not hope for
too much...if it gets to be a bore, just eject
the disc and go to something else...the criminals
won't mind!
You will get views of the seedy side of England,
of which there are plenty. Two stars should do
it...
!
