Evil Dead 2 continues the great story of our hero Ash, played by Bruce Campbell, as he fights to stop the Candarian Demons. Bruce will have you laughing hysterically with his off the wall one liners. I simply adore the Evil Dead series. Ash is a true horror movie hero icon. I know he'd be the one I would call if I had some demons in need of slaying!Very funny for a horror movie... - Coconut_Willy
Comparisons with the original Evil Dead are unavoidable as it has gained cult status but these two movies are very different. While the first one was meant as a low budget horror film, this one is definitely a comedy with gory special effects. The storyline is more or less the same as Evil Dead (quite good), the dialogue is hilarious, the acting is very good, the sets are appropriate. In my opinion, the best part of this movie are the special effects; horror slapstick at his best reminescent a bit of old Abbott and Costello movies but with modern means. In addition to the movie, this DVD has lots of interesting bonus material.
The transfer to DVD is of good quality; not extraordinary but clean. Highly recommended.Sequel surpasses the original - Mr._Monster
It's rare that a sequel is better than the original, but Evil Dead II might be just such a film. I say might be, because it really depends on what type of movie you're looking for. If its flat out horror, then yes, this sequel doesn't quite make it to the level of its predecessor. But for pure entertainment value, Evil Dead II is surpassed by few movies, ever.
Often misunderstood as a remake of the first movie, Evil Dead II was actually intended as a sequel, but copyright issues with the first movie necessitated compressing the plot of the first movie into 5 minutes of film, to explain how Ash got to the cabin and why he's surrounded by evil. From there, Evil Dead II goes on to be one of the best examples of splatterstick, with gore gag upon gore gag until the film's final act, which serves to set up the sequel, Army of Darkness. Like its predecessor, Evil Dead II deserves to be seen again and again by all horror fans.
