Evil Under the Sun
Holidays Can Be Murder!
When a shrewish stage star is found strangled at a posh island resort, detective Hercule Poirot (Peter Ustinov) is called in to investigate. But as the brilliant Belgian learns, it isn't a matter of who would want the diva dead, but who wouldn't? As he follows the twists and turns of clues and motives, Poirot soon discovers that even among the rich and famous, murder never takes a holiday.
Maggie Smith, Roddy McDowall, Diana Rigg, James Mason, Jane Birkin, Colin Blakely and Sylvia Miles co-star in this Christie favorite filmed on location in stunning Majorca, Spain, directed by Guy Hamilton (The Mirror Crack'd, Goldfinger), adapted by Anthony Shaffer (Sleuth) and filled with classic songs by Cole Porter.

Evil Under The Sun is your typical Agatha Christie murder-mystery set on a beautiful Spanish island. It gets off to a very slow start and is extremely boring for about the first half, but then it gets a bit more interesting.
I had a hard time believing Peter Ustinov with a French accent playing a Belgian. He is such an icon, that he always appears to me as an actor playing a role. The murder mystery itself is mildly interesting, but the woman who got offed was very unlikeable, so I really didn't care who did it or why. The main attraction of the film is the setting - the beautiful island of Mallorca, Spain. Unless you're a big fan of Agatha Christie mysteries, you may want to pass on this film.Evil under sun:great - purpulicious
Peter Ustinov does a great job of playing Hercule Poirot, not the best one though. These old Agatha Christie movies are just classics. Lots of big name movie stars in this one. If not a fan of Agatha Christie, probably won't like the movie. But a good mystery movie anyways.~ USTINOV'S BEST OF POIROT MYSTERY MOVIES ~ 4 1/4 Stars ~ - SqueakyChair
SNAPSHOT: Ustinov performs credible version of Poirot. Excellent storyline. Even paced. Lavish production. Exotic locale. Clever. Pure period piece in it's method and it's execution. A delight to watch.
MORE THOUGHTS: It is sometimes hard to remember that Peter Ustinov played a very credible Poirot 50 years ago after David Suchet took that same character later on frequently and literally made it his own memorable Poirot.
Might i suggest a viewing of David Suchet as Poirot from ZIP.ca
