Extreme Measures
Not all surgery is intended to cure.
Dr. Guy Luthan did everything right but it turned out wrong. A patient under his care at New York’s Gramercy Hospital mysteriously died, and now Luthan wants to know why. However, when he looks for post-mortem details, he finds no body... and no records.
Hugh Grant plays Luthan in Extreme Measures, "one of the most effective paranoid suspense movies since The Fugitive" (Chicago Tribune). Gene Hackman and Sarah Jessica Parker co-star in this mystery thriller posing a medical-ethics dilemma to keep you thinking long after it ends. Luthan’s determined to unravel the bizarre conspiracy into which he’s stumbled. But he’s not the only one willing to go to extremes.

Excellent Suspense Thriller - newdaysof
Hugh Grant does a superb job playing a young British doctor caught up in a medical conspiracy in New York City.
This film shows just how easy it is to destroy someone's reputation by planting fake evidence. One of his patients exhibits bizarre symptoms then suddenly dies. When Grant's character starts asking too many questions, he is told to forget about it, then he is told he is suffering from exhaustion, then finally, he is set up for a crime he didn't commit. Suddenly he is on the street without a job and his reputation is destroyed. Just shows how the medical system can cover up mistakes and if you complain, you are shut out and discredited. But the story gets more involved as Grant's character uncovers a conspiracy which pulls him even further into the rat-hole.
The movie offers lots of mystery, suspense, intrigue and action. Gene Hackman is good as usual as the senior neurological specialist.Thoroughly Engrossing. - bwod
Award-winning director Michael Apted guides this modern-day thriller in the tradition of an Alfred Hitchcock movie. Hugh Grant plays a workaholic emergency-room doctor who stumbles on to a diabolical plot involving unwilling patients and an evil shadowy research company, headed by Gene Hackman.
Danger lurks at every corner as the young surgeon tries to untangle a medical mystery that will put his own life on the line. I liked this movie a lot and give it two thumbs up!Great stuff - vissfam
This movie was a thriller. We loved it and were quite intrigued by the fact that a movie would be based on medicine and still be a thriller. If such a movie were reality in today's world it would surely make the headlines. Well worth the watch. We recommend it to anyone who likes thrillers.
