F/X
Murder By Illusion
Dare to be duped! The world of movie make-believe meets the gritty New York crime scene in this "taut and clever suspense movie" (The New York Times). Bryan Brown (Cocktail) and Brian Dennehy (Romeo & Juliet) command the heart-pounding action in "the first-class, crackling excitement of F/X" (Los Angeles Times).
Rollie Tyler (Brown) is the best special effects artist in showbiz. But this time it's not the studios seeking him out...it's the Justice Department. His assignment: to stage the assassination of an important underworld witness. And after he pulls the illusion off -- making the informant disappear -- Rollie is dumbfounded to learn that he's being pinned for the murder! Double-crossed and now hunted by those who hired him, Rollie quickly learns that he can trust no one...and that the only thing left that can save his life is his unequaled mastery of illusion!

Just an OK movie - Willibrord
I was really looking forward to revisiting F/X after an interval of about 20 years. However, the movie -- while still entertaining -- didn't hold up to the test of time as well as it might. Always a great treat to watch Brian Dennehy though, and Bryan Brown does his level best. The f/x props are still amazing!Classic is right - Picker_of_Movies
I saw this movie in the 80s. I liked it then and I think it stands up over time.
Yes it was the 80s. Take a look at the glasses on the girl who helps Dennehy with inside information. (The computer geek girl.) Get over it. I still watch movies from the 60s without telling those damn hippies to get a haircut.
The premise works. The performances are good. The action fits in with the plot/characters. I'm going to give it 5 stars. It only deserves four but the first reviewer threw the average off with (I think) an unjust rating.Excellent suspense! - Cricri7
I loved F/X when I saw it the first time around and loved it also the second time around! Contrary to the other review who said that it smelled of the 1980's, I thought that the suspense was good enough to make you forget it. The suspense takes a couple of twists and turns and leaves you hanging on the edge of your sofa...
We don't see Brian Dennehy much anymore and he played the cop part very well in this movie. He played a lot of attorneys and cops in his career becauses he plays them well. Seeing Jerry Orbach on screen is always a pleasure!
