F/X 2
The Deadly Art of Illusion
Bryan Brown and Brian Dennehy are back for an all-new action-thriller that continues the F/X saga with stylish wit, unrelenting suspense and amazing high-tech action.
Five years after his first deadly adventure, Rollie Tyler (Brown) has left the special effects business and now designs sophisticated electronic toys for a living. But when his girlfriend's ex-husband (Tom Mason), a police detective, persuades him to devise an illusion to capture a serial killer, Rollie is once again lured into the lethal world of make-believe. And soon, he finds himself trapped in a murderous maze of deceit and treachery in which he must depend on his ingenious tricks -- and his friendship with detective Leo McCarthy (Dennehy) -- to expose a terrifying underworld conspiracy...but only if he can stay alive!

What FX2 lacks for in the licentious and parodic, it makes up for in geekily entertaining do-it-yourself escape projects. There's an interesting parallel between the schematics of the ex-special effects specialist, and the gritty Sam Spadeisms of the ex-detective. Naturally, both of the protagonists are in search of the killer of Rolly's wife's ex-husband. What's with all the x's? FX, that's what! Watch it today. Great explosiions, weird doppelganger effects with a clown, and a bad guy you definitely won't like. The only thing missing from this film is McGuyver. wow, i can't believe i actually enjoyed this detecive/ thriller film. I learned a crazy fact about the first F/X the film bombed in the theatre but made record sales on video back in 1986, that the producer made a sequal and oddly enough did the opposite effect doing better in Theatres. Funny and at times drall you really need to have patients because the end results are worth the wait. This film's great for it's time period and somewhat out dated but i don't mind because it still is inventive. Worth a rental.F/X 2 holds up to the first film. - movie_goer
