Final Analysis
Someone was seduced. Someone was set up, and before it was all over...someone was dead.
Psychiatrist Isaac Barr is a noted expert in this field - and the perfect patsy in a devious scheme of murder and inheritance. And his fall could be straight down from atop a towering lighthouse. Handcuffed in No Mercy, Richard Gere and Kim Basinger now face off on a lighthouse catwalk in Final Analysis, a gripping, masterful update of the complex psychological thrillers of yesteryear.

This film starts out at a slow pace, at times feeling a bit too cheesy for modern taste. There are definitely too many Hitchcock-inspired elements to be overly surprised or thrilled. But it pulls together very well in the end and it manages to entertain at a decent level. Overall, not a bad rental.Mystery, Thrills, Spicy Romance - c4th
(Spoiler Alert - final paragraph)
It is unfortunate that this film was released in the shadow of Basic Instinct which received much hype and provided plenty of controversy. As a result, this gem of a romantic thriller featuring an all-star cast was widely overlooked.
Richard Gere and Kim Basinger dish out some steamy romance but make no mistake. Although their imprudent affair is a key element of the plot, this is first and foremost a thriller full of twists and turns and heart-stopping moments to keep viewers on edges of their seats.
Sticklers on realism will find faults. Certainly some characters get away with some things that would be unlikely in real life but in this genre, some creative licence is acceptable in the interest of heightened suspense. Hitchcock was notorious (pun intended) for this.
Final Analysis is at least as good as Basic Instinct. If you are in the mood for mystery and intrigue with a little spicy romance, pop in the DVD and prepare yourself for two hours of gripping entertainment.
And now to all those reviewers going on and on about ripping off Hitchcock - Have you never heard of tribute. With the effects possible today, do you honestly think the shot of Basinger falling into the bay would be done as it was if it were not a tribute to the old master? Not bad at all - MovieLover5
This was a bit of a surprise - a pretty good piece of suspense coupled with a fair dose of "Who really is the bad guy?". The plot is sufficiently believable, at least in the Hollywood kind of way. There are a few spots where you have to stretch credulity a bit, but hey, like I said, this is Hollywood.
Everyone plays their role well, if not a bit stereotypical in some instances such as the tough, cynical cop. All in all, if you like Hitchcock's movies you'll like this one. They must have channeled him because you can certainly feel his style throughout. Decent escapism for a couple of hours.
