Great couch movie - fallenangel
Everytime this movie gets played on TV, even at 3 am, I stay up and watch it. Somewhat because I love boxing movies but also it is one of those movies you pop in on a lazy day or a movie you know all your friends will enjoy.
There is just something for everyone so even if you don't sympathize with one character, there is another one which you will root for.Great Movie! - Jman2010
This really is a great movie about boxing and the ultimate value of friendship. I saw this movie when it first came out on video casette and it's just as good today as it was back then. It has a good cast with Cuba Gooding jr in his early days before his career took off and then crash landed after Jerry Mcguire. Brian Denehy whom I've always enjoyed in movies is particularly evil in this movie as the fighting organizer who tries to lure young boxers into his crooked world to make a quick buck. James Marshall I would have to say is the weakest of the main characters - he has a very stiff persona in all movies that he has played - most memorable in A Few Good Men - but did ok in this role. All of the other support cast members do a good job. Entertaining movie to watch!Better than the other Gladiator. - Blob
Although I am a History buff including Roman, I like this movie much more than the other more famous Gladiator movie.
This even though I strongly dislike Cuba Gooding jr. and lead character went to the Steven Seegal school of acting. It still seems to work. Story fine, the boxing matches were entertaining, and not overly long. Seen it several times and still enjoy it, which is rare.
One interesting thing to keep an eye out for is the use of product placement. You never actually see the Crunch bar, or the M&M peanuts but they are referred to by brand name, and in a way which is a bit ham fisted. Does not happen enough to ruin the movie though.
