Gorky Park
"An Absorbing Murder Mystery!" -Leonard Maltin
Murder, seduction and intrigue in the Kremlin! Written by Dennis Potter (Brimstone and Treacle), from a Martin Cruz Smith novel, Gorky Park is a gripping and brilliant classic! Starring William Hurt, Lee Marvin, Brian Dennehy and Joanna Pacula, this "crisp intricate thriller" (The New York Times) takes you behind the iron curtain!
When three murder victims are discovered in Moscow's Gorky Park - their faces and fingertips removed - detective Arkady Renko (Hurt) is determined to identify the bodies and find the killer. But as a picture of the victims takes shape, the clues point toward involvement not only of the KGB but also of the woman he loves, Irina (Pacula). Now, hunted by the secret police and confronted by an intricate web of deception and treachery reaching to the highest political levels, Renko will stop at nothing to uncover the truth and bring the killer to justice - even if it means guaranteeing his own destruction...and losing Irina forever.

Gorky Park - oldmovies
lam sorry, but I do not like this movie at all.
I was disappoined by Joanna Pacula, she was nominated for the Golden Globe award for this role, but why?
My Set in a pre-Glasnost Soviet Union, "Gorky Park" is part detective drama, part thriller, part romance, part mystery. Like Martin Cruz Smith's novel, the movie accurately depicts official Moscow as a series of Russian dolls: As one doll is removed, there's always another one inside. And for an author who'd never been to Russia or Moscow when he wrote the book, he created a story - that the movie does a good job of adapting to the screen - that unravels the layers of corruption, greed and violence that griped the Soviet Union and still grips the city and country today.
The mix of dialects spoken by the characters can be a bit jarring at first, almost distracting, but the story is riveting, the acting nuanced, the directing deft and the film is definitely worth watchingexpectation was much higher, looking for spy kind of thriller, not found in this movieSubstitute Russian Mafia For The KGB ... - CharleyJames

William Hurt does a good job, and Brian Dennehy is, as always, Brian Dennehy, and pretty good at it, too. Ian Bannen does his usual excellent job. It is altogether a good film although a tad too dark for me, and with much too blatant a sex scene, but what a good mystery! It keeps me guessing until the end, even though I have seen it several times, and the last scene is a real giggle: flit, flit, flit. I won't give it away, just in case you haven't yet viewed this "good tale, well told."
