Half Past Dead
Fully armed. Totally outnumbered. Completely unexpected.
Welcome to Alcatraz. "The Rock" has just reopened for business, but the first criminal slated for the electric chair is also sitting on a secret worth $200 million. And an invading group of commandos (led by Morris Chestnut) isn't going to let his fortune go up in smoke. Already undercover in Alcatraz, FBI agent Petrosecitch (Steven Seagal) has to neutralize the situation and rescue a Supreme Court Justice held hostage. Worse, he has to convince his convict "partner" (Ja Rule) and the other inmates to fight on the right side of the law.

Dull + predictable. - googleplex
There is really nothing outstanding about this movie. It's all been done before and better.
Set in a re-opened Alcatraz some of the set building is distinctly low budget.
Steven Seagal displays his usual mono-emotion style and basic kickboxing skills.
The plot here is almost identical to another movie of his, Under Siege, except this is nowhere near as good.
I actually fell asleep in the middle of this movie, no joking I really did!Enjoyable Comic-Book Style Action Movie - TimI
Steven Segal goes underground at a hard-core prisoner as part of a police intelligence mission but finds himself involved in nasty conspiracy.
The Good:
1. The action is very well staged and seldom stops. There are some very well executed set pieces that come across very well.
2. The acting is well above average for this sort of film and some of the supporting parts are very well written.
3. There is some interesting philosophical discussions amid the mayhem about the death penalty and life after death.
4. The sound is amazing in this movie. I had my sound system turned down low while watching this film and my condo unit was shaking.
5. The film never takes itself too seriously. It knows that it is a comic-book style action film and never tries to be anything else.
The Bad:
1. Some of the writing is just plain lame.
2. The supposedly super-maximum security prison looks more like a daycare than a place to keep hardcore offenders.
3. The prisoners, supposedly "The worst of the worst", come across as a bunch of 12 year old kids.
4. The surprise twist ending, while spectacular, is just plain ridiculous.
The Bottom Line:
For fans of action movies, this a very enjoyable flick that will keep your attention throughout.Better then most - Nightbabe
This movies is actually better then most of Steven Seagal's movie. I did enjoy the role that Ja Rule played in it as well. There is plenty of action and no sappy scenes so that was a plus! This is just a pure action movies. If you want big special effects then it is not the movie for you.
